From the Field | China
Arrived late last night in Shanghai amidst typhoon conditions. Heading to Wuhan today to join Erik Burklin and the China Partner team that I'll be with these next two weeks. Covet your prayers!
Visited an extraordinary training center for Christian leaders today outside Huangshi. About 100 Chinese church leaders have gathered this week for three days of training. What a privilege to be here and to equip these men and women. In a separate room were 90 younger leaders who have come from all over China to train for 1-2 years in theology, Bible and missions. It was a day full of teaching and training. Tomorrow we go back and continue. Please continue to pray for us.
Training day #2 complete. We are about 2 hours east of Wuhan. These are very special people--hospitable, eager to learn, devoted to Christ and a joy to train. Spent time with Pastor Xu this afternoon. A great leader who has a burden to train up the next generation of young pastors in China.
Concluded final day in Huangshi with Erik Burklin. At the end of our time the leaders all stood and sang a blessing over us. Grateful for my competent and experienced translator Frank Wang, who covered a multitude of my transgressions all week long! Off to Changsha tomorrow.
We arrived back in Wuhan yesterday from Huangshi and met Linda who came in from another city. We went to the Wuhan train station to catch bullet train to Changsha. It was pretty cool going 300km on a train. The train stations here in China are enormous, packed with people and dizzying in their activity.
Final day in China. Today we visited China's largest Theological Seminary, along with Amity Printing Press, the largest printer of Bibles in the world! God's Word going out to the nations from a nation widely regarded as closed to the Gospel. Special thanks to my dear friends Erik Burklin, Linda Pervenecki and Frank Wong for a memorable two weeks in this great land.
